Rep. Sue Helm
Putting Taxpayers First
Sue
Helm is working hard as our State Representative to put
taxpayers first. She’s fighting to keep state taxes and
spending under control and to bring needed reforms to
state government. Rep. Helm understands that it’s your
money.
Rep. Helm has 20 years of solid business experience
under her belt. She is the owner of Century 21 At the
Helm and is a licensed real estate broker. As a
successful small business owner, Sue brings real-world
experience to the job of State Representative.
Rep. Helm is a true, fiscal conservative. She opposed
Gov. Rendell’s proposal to increase spending in the
state budget by nearly $1 billion dollars in the
2007-2008 fiscal year. She also supported House passage
of landmark welfare reform legislation aimed at reducing
fraud and abuse. Rep. Helm helped write legislation to
reduce the state income tax to 2.99 percent, which would
be a savings to taxpayers of about $300 million.
And Rep. Helm wants to change the way your state
government operates; to make it more open and accessible
to you. That’s why she voted for tough, new rules to
stop the midnight votes, require a 24-hour waiting
period before final votes on bills, and to make more
information available to you on the internet.
Rep. Helm is the first woman elected to serve in the
legislature in Dauphin County history. Her committee
assignments include the Professional Licensure, Local
Government, Children and Youth and Urban Affairs
committees.
One of Rep. Helm’s most significant accomplishments in
her first term was winning passage of her legislation
enabling the Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union
to purchase 47 acres in Susquehanna Township for their
new headquarters. This key measure helped to keep the
credit union and their jobs here in Dauphin County.
Rep. Helm is active in our community. Born and raised
here in Dauphin County, Sue graduated from Susquehanna
Township High School and earned an Associates Degree in
liberal arts from the Harrisburg Area Community College.
She is a member of the Harrisburg Historical Society.
She resides in Susquehanna Township and is a member of
Grace United Methodist Church.
